Privacy Policy
Effective September 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how CrimeZone (“CrimeZone”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and shares information when you use the CrimeZone iOS app, the website crimezone.app and related services (together, the “Service”). Questions and requests can be sent to support@crimezone.app.
In short: an account is optional. Your precise location is used on your device and is not sent to our servers. We do not show ads, do not use the advertising identifier and do not sell personal information.
1. Acceptance
By downloading, accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand how we handle information as described here. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service. This Privacy Policy forms part of our Terms of Use.
2. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add features or change service providers. We will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date above. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, for example through the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update takes effect means that the updated policy applies to you.
3. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to operate the Service. Some of it you give us, some is collected automatically when you use the Service, and some comes from the platforms and providers that help us run it.
3.1 Information you provide
- Account information. An account is optional. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive a unique account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. Apple lets you share a private relay address instead of your real email. We never receive your Apple or Google password, and we do not use your Google account to access Gmail, Google Drive or any other Google service.
- Links you share. When you share a link to CrimeZone, such as a listing on a travel website, the link is sent to our servers so that we can find the location of the place it describes.
- Support messages. If you contact us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message.
- Demo profile. Details you enter in the in-app demo profile are stored only on your device.
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Location. If you grant permission and tap “My location”, the app receives your precise location from iOS while the app is open and uses it on your device to centre the map. We do not send these coordinates to our servers, and the app never requests background location access.
- Map activity. To display the map and its data layers, the app requests map imagery and data for the area on screen from our servers and from our map provider. These requests reveal the area you are viewing, which may be near you.
- Search queries. Place and address search is handled by Apple’s map search service, which receives your search text and the approximate map region. We do not receive your searches.
- Device and usage information. When you use the Service, we and our service providers may receive your IP address, device model, operating system version, language and region settings, app version, install date, a vendor identifier assigned by Apple (IDFV), and in-app events such as viewing subscription offers and making purchases.
- Server logs. Our servers record the IP address, request details (for example, which map tile was requested), time and response status of requests to our API. Requests that contain links you share are excluded from these logs.
- Map telemetry. The mapping software in the app sends usage and performance telemetry to our map provider by default, which may include device and location information. You can turn this off at any time from the ⓘ button on the map.
- Live radio. When you listen to live radio, your device connects directly to third-party audio sources, which receive your IP address and technical request details under their own policies. Captions are generated on your device; audio is not uploaded to us for captioning.
3.3 Purchase information
Payments are processed by Apple. We and our subscription management provider receive information about your purchases and subscription status, such as the product, purchase date, trial and renewal status, but never your payment card details. If you are signed in, this information is associated with your account identifier.
3.4 Cookies and similar technologies
The crimezone.app website does not use cookies, analytics scripts or advertising trackers. The app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not include advertising or analytics software. The software components used for sign-in, subscriptions and maps store what they need to work, such as your sign-in session, on your device.
3.5 Device permissions
CrimeZone asks only for location access while you use the app. It does not access your microphone, camera, photos, contacts or calendars.
4. How we use information
- To provide the Service: display maps and available data, find places from links you share, play live radio and remember your settings.
- To create and manage your account and keep you signed in.
- To offer, process and restore subscriptions and to verify Premium access.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud (for example, by limiting the rate of requests from one IP address) and fix problems.
- To respond to your requests and provide support.
- To understand and improve the reliability and performance of the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
We do not sell your personal information, use it for targeted advertising or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
5. How we share information
- Service providers. Companies that host our servers and website, provide account authentication, manage subscriptions and provide maps process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their services to us.
- Platform providers. Apple processes App Store payments and provides Sign in with Apple and map search. Google provides Sign in with Google. Their own privacy policies apply to the information they process.
- Third-party content sources. When you play live radio, your device connects directly to the audio source, as described above.
- Legal requirements and protection. We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of CrimeZone, our users or others.
- Business transfers. If CrimeZone or its assets are sold, merged or otherwise transferred, information may be transferred to the new owner, who will be bound by this Privacy Policy for the information transferred.
- With your consent. We may share information for other purposes when you ask us to or agree to it.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information. Current versions of the app communicate with our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections, and access to our systems is restricted. However, no method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. International transfers
Our servers and service providers may be located in the United States and in other countries whose data protection laws differ from those of your country. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
8. Third-party links and services
The Service may open or link to third-party websites and services, such as pages you share with CrimeZone or pages of data sources. We do not control and are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
9. Do Not Track
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. There is no common standard for how to respond to them. Because the Service does not track you across third-party websites or apps, it does not change its behaviour in response to these signals.
10. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:
- Account information is kept until you delete your account or ask us to delete it. We then delete it within 30 days, unless we must keep some of it to meet a legal obligation.
- Server logs are kept for a short period and overwritten automatically on a rolling basis.
- Links you share are not stored. The resulting place information is held in server memory for up to 6 hours to avoid repeated requests.
- Purchase records are kept by Apple and our subscription management provider as needed for accounting, tax and legal purposes.
- Support messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it.
- Information on your device stays there until you remove it or delete the app.
11. Your choices
- Location. You can allow, deny or change location access at any time in iOS Settings. Without it, you can still explore the map manually.
- Map telemetry. You can turn off map telemetry from the ⓘ button on the map.
- Account. You can sign out at any time. To delete your account and associated data, email support@crimezone.app, ideally from the address linked to your account so that we can verify the request.
- Subscriptions. You can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings under your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
- On-device data. Deleting the app removes the information it stored on your device.
12. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Additional information for California residents
This section applies to California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (“CCPA”).
- Categories collected in the last 12 months: identifiers (such as an account identifier, IP address and vendor identifier); commercial information (subscription and purchase history); internet or other network activity (server logs and in-app events); and approximate geolocation derived from the map areas you view. Precise location is used only on your device and is not collected by us.
- Sources: you, your device, and our platform and service providers.
- Purposes: the business purposes described in section 4.
- Disclosures: we disclose these categories to service providers for business purposes. We have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
- Your rights: you may request to know or access the personal information we have collected about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
- How to make a request: email support@crimezone.app. We will verify your request using information associated with your account. You may use an authorised agent, who must provide proof of authorisation.
- Direct marketing: we do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
14. Additional information for the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the operator of CrimeZone is the controller of your personal data and can be contacted at support@crimezone.app.
Legal bases. We process personal data:
- to perform our contract with you, such as providing the Service, your account and subscriptions;
- for our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the Service, such as server logs, abuse prevention and map telemetry, which you can turn off;
- with your consent, such as access to your device’s location, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings; and
- to comply with legal obligations, such as keeping transaction records.
Your rights. Subject to the conditions of applicable law, you have the right to access your personal data; to have it corrected or erased; to restrict or object to its processing; to receive it in a portable format; to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise these rights, email support@crimezone.app. We will respond within one month.
Transfers. Where your personal data is transferred outside your region, we rely on the safeguards described in section 7.
